And so it goes..

…to paraphrase a famous newscaster…

It’s amazing the things that randomly pass through your head when you are in one place for any length of time..let me explain – we are currently in the Muncie Mall, selling our wickless candles and bath products.  Sitting at a kiosk for up to twelve hours a day can lead the mind to some strange conclusions -

Wanna know what I have learned so far?  No matter that we carry fifty different scents of candles….there will always be a flavor that someone wants that we don’t currently have.  Champagne?  Eucalyptus anyone?  I can’t even imagine exactly what a champagne candle would smell like?  I will admit that even among those we carry – we each have our favorites – and are not so favorites….but Eucalyptus?  If I am wrong – and I frequently am – there are all kinds of scents that I haven’t considered so I got to thinking  - what if we asked for some opinions?  Despite the weather – it’s actually time for us to think about the spring line of products – and I decided that the customer’s voice will be heard!  If there is a scent that we don’t have – and that you Really REALLY want – speak up – from what I can gather – our fans aren’t the shy, quiet types – let your voices be heard – you can either post your opinions here – or you can post on the Glass Slipper Candle site on Facebook – appropriately call “Glass Slipper Candles”.

Random observations also abound – and sadly – I don’t get to voice my thoughts…aloud at least…but here goes –

1.  If they made tennies in my size with the flashing lights I would totally buy a pair – and don’t think I haven’t been scouring the Internet looking!

2. There are many, many items of clothing that not only shouldn’t have been made, but really shouldn’t venture outside of the closet.

3. Humour is everywhere – you just have to keep your eyes and ears open.

4. Disappointment is a difficult lesson to learn to deal with, and an even harder lesson to overcome. Thank God for family!

5.  If you want to have some fun one afternoon – sit on a bench in a mall, close your eyes and let your mind paint pictures of everything you hear.  Then open your eyes and be amazed at how wrong you were.  There’s a lesson about expectations in there if you try hard enough.

6. Driving yourself nutty at Christmas, while entertaining for me to watch, probably doesn’t improve Christmas at all.  Do your best, keep your sanity, and enjoy the season.

7. When I asked my niece what she wanted for Christmas, her answer was homemade marshmallows.  She could have asked for anything – but she wanted something she can’t make herself, and her aunt could.  Thanks for the warm fuzzy feeling Diana!  Best Niece Ever!

8.  You are never too old to hold someones hand.

9. You can’t control everything, so don’t bother trying.

10. I’ve said it before and I’ll keep saying it – just because we can, doesn’t mean we should!

So if you are following us on the Facebook page, you will now have a better understanding into my brand of insanity. If you aren’t following us – well – WHY NOT?  I have a goal of lots and lots of people being our fans.  And a belated Happy Thanksgiving to all. This year my greatest gift and thankfulness is for my family and friends.  Be safe out there!

Cha-Cha-Change…

You can almost hear that song now can’t you…I was going to start with “They’re Here!”…another classic movie line, but sadly, Karen can’t play the movie line game – I am usually happy when she can recognize Julia Roberts, so I try not to drive her too crazy.  Although bugging your sister is kinda mentioned in the sister’s handbook.  :)  It occurred to me that I have been all together too quiet lately and there is all kinds of new things to tell you about!  For the record – that would literally be the first time that anyone has accused me of being too quiet…

So, we moved into the Muncie Mall in Indiana. For most – the Indiana part would be self-explanatory – but it turns out that people read about us from far and away (yet another movie)…and in case you are traveling and want to actually smell all about us – come on down!  I should mention that my love of people-watching is being completely indulged, and the only down side is that I can’t make any self-effacing comments.  We are located between Kay’s Jewelry and Victoria’s Secret – can you imagine a better location to people watch?

Because of the increased production we conned…uh…begged…or pleaded with the parents to come to Indiana and work!  Now doesn’t that sound like a typical kid….hey Mom….”why don’t you come to visit – it would be lovely to see you…” psst…and while you are here, you can label, and fill, and package….and you know…and Dad – since you’re just watching tv…how about labeling a couple thousand lids and soaps….please?!?  whatever…. I should really get the best daughter ever award…..can’t believe I haven’t gotten that prize yet.  Seriously though, the parents said they wanted to join the family effort – and who am I to deny them?  LOVE YOU MOM AND DAD!

K, since that’s said – on to other news – the website – fluffed and perfected by the amazing Jill Duffy has launched.  It’s all sparkly and shiny, and she included a scratch and sniff section so that you can smell all the amazing wickless candles and bath salts.  What?  Your computer doesn’t have the scratch and sniff app?  You should totally download it!

We have our two lines of Mineral Sea Salts, featuring Dead Sea Salt from Israel.  These are the best sea salts on earth, and we have two different lines…the aromatherapy – which is non-foaming and designed to affect your senses.  We worked with an herbalist who really knows her business.  One of those salts is called Crank-away, and is for use with women suffering PMS tensions.  I did have a customer ask if drowning her husband in the bath would count. Uh…have to say – NO!  Much better to lock yourself in the bathroom and take a nice calming bath. The other line is the foaming bath line.  The scents match our most popular candle scents, and smell amazing – even if I do say so myself!  Just don’t use them in the jacuzzi – unless you really REALLY like cleaning up bubbles, and want to live a Brady Bunch episode (which also technically counts as a movie reference!) If you look through all the choices and just can’t decide – never fear – we thought of the perfect idea – a gift set of 8 tubes – the aromatherapy line or the foaming line. You choose – and if you want to mix and match….just buy both and mix them up to your heart’s content.  Just kidding – mention what you are looking for in the comment section, and I will be happy to indulge you if at all possible.

Since I am in such a verbose mood – you might also want to check out the goat’s milk and glycerine soap line.  We use full-fat goat’s milk – which is the only time you’ll hear someone say full-fat and good for you in the same sentence.  Combined with glycerine, this soap is gentle and moisturizing, and again, smells simply wonderful. Stocking stuffers anyone?

So exciting!

We have been busy little elfs these last few weeks ~ but there is a lot of exciting (at least to me) news to share!  First – our fair schedule – we will be in Noblesville on Saturday the 23rd at the Presbyterian Church from 9am until 4pm.  The church is located on State Road 32 just West of the town square.  We will be in Elwood at the Catholic Church Bazaar on November 6th, and then the Six or So Art Show in Frankton on the 7th.  Told you we were going to be busy!

Starting on the 8th of November – we will be in the Muncie Mall.  After talking with the mall management, they must have decided that we aren’t too insane – so they are letting us rent a cart for November and December!  We will be located in the junction right in front of Victoria’s Secret and Kay Jewelers.  Matter of fact – we will be so busy, that we enlisted everyone who couldn’t run away fast enough (Sorry Mom and Dad!)…friends and family will all be pitching in to wrap, label and package, not to mention working the cart.  So in the event I ever call you, and ask what you are doing… you might want to invest in caller id…

On a side note that has nothing to do with anything….know what the second best part of November 8th will be?  No more political ads…with their sinister music…and all the negativity…makes me want to dunk the whole lot in a bathtub fill with Happy Aromatherapy salt….and yep – you guessed it – coulda said something else, but then Karen would say that I shouldn’t say that, and being the younger sister…I hate having to admit she’s right…so I will avoid the whole thing, and stick with the original thought.  Maybe I should just send some Happy salts straight to the candidates….who knows?  It could work….

‘Kay folks – gotta get back to the creating and making… so stay safe, and come back often…things change pretty quick around here!

Hello Again!

It turns out that participating in fairs is hard work!  There is a lot of schlepping that goes along with having all our products in one place.  The best part?  After recovering from the hernia, that is…..the best part is meeting all of our great customers!  We have been in three fairs in the last three weeks – and it’s fun to meet all the different people who like our products.  My sister can start a conversation with anyone, so she had a ball getting to meet so many new people.  I enjoyed the opportunity to brag on about our candles.  We officially launched the new line of Mineral Dead Sea Bath Salts.  (And after all the schlepping….a nice relaxing bath filled with AHHH….)  Emerge refreshed and tingling and most importantly…able to move again.  YEAH! Now, I have to ask for patience…we updated the bottles to tall, cylindrical glass bottles (rather than the plastic jars).  They are available in 16oz and 8 oz sizes.  We are also working on some packaging for Christmas – don’t hate me…it’s going to come whether or not I mention it.  Better to be prepared.  The salts come in two lines – the aromatherapy and the foaming.  The aromatherapy line does not foam, is safe for jacuzzi tubs, and is designed to affect your senses. In a positive manner of course.  The foaming line matches our candle scents, and because of the foaming powder, I wouldn’t recommend using in a whirlpool bath.  Unless you have A LOT of towels, and someone to follow you around cleaning up.  If you had to clean up the mess, there is a chance it would reduce the effects of your relaxing bath…I’m just saying.  The foaming line is available in Twilight, Samba, Whimsy, Sea Cucumber, Peaches and Mangoes, and Aurora.  Jump in and enjoy!

We Survived!

Overdramatic?  Possibly, but getting ready for our first big festival – and we did it!  I have to admit that it’s amazing that everyone who knows me didn’t harm me last week….I was a little nutsy-go-crazy, trying to remember everything that needed to be done.  Shipments that arrived late?  No problem – friends and family gathered to mix, label, and box…..tiny little elfs running loose in the candle room, and it all got done.  We had an amazing time at Frankton Heritage Days.  We met all kinds of people, and had the opportunity to talk about and share the quality of our products.  If you missed us – you have the opportunity to see us next weekend at the Atlanta Earth Day Festival.  We are setting up in Dolles Park – so please come by and see us.  We will be running several show specials – so stay tuned!

On your mark…get set…

And start enjoying – I say this with a certain amount of bliss – the website is updated and loaded and looks beeyoutiful!  All of the Fall and Holiday season wickless candles are loaded and ready to be shipped and enjoyed in your home.  I may have mentioned this before, but we really do have the best web designer ever.  Not just talented, but patient too!  She still answers her phone – even after seeing her caller id!  I feel like I should mention, before someone brings it to my attention – but my keyboard is having issues, and for some reason does not like to capitalize the letter ‘w’.  I don’t always know what the keyboard is up to when I am not watching, but in the event that I forget to check (or use the other shift key) – I don’t mean to slaughter the alphabet….it just happens.  Okay – explaining aside — how did you all spend your weekend?  Me, you ask?  Well, made some candles….made some mineral bath salts….took a bath (Hey – it’s not screwing around….it’s research…um…yeah – we’ll call it research!) After painting the crates that we are using for displays in the upcoming fairs – which, btw, I expect to see you all at…..I needed to soak and restore.  Conveniently, we carry Mineral Bath Salts created using Dead Sea Salt imported from Israel.  A little hot water, a handful of AHHH..muscle soak, and half an hour later, I can move again.  It’s a Miracle!  Or at least a revelation.  CNN recently reported on all the benefits of Dead Sea Salt, and we will be posting those insights here for those who want to be in the know.  If you are in the mood to take a relaxing bath, or soak and soften your skin – maybe just take advantage of the restorative properties of pure mineral salts…check out our products, and see if you can’t find something to suit your style.

CNN Video: CNN confirms bath salts heal, and that dead sea salt is a natural cure for psoriasis and may help with symptoms of arthritis and eczema.

So it’s that time of year ~ already?

I can’t believe it’s almost September, and that Halloween is just around the corner.  I always feel like the beginning of the year is a blur and I can only remember the last four months or so – and if that’s some kind of neurological disorder – please don’t share. Some things I prefer to be ignorant about.  We’ve been busy little beavers here at Glass Slipper – so while the great majority sings aloud for children heading back to school – it signals the time to start getting ready for ‘festival’ season.  We have several upcoming events and be sure that I will shout from the rooftops when and where we will be.  It’s always nice to meet the people who make us such a success, and my sister Karen has yet to meet someone that she can’t strike up a conversation with.  The website, designed by the brilliant and ever-willing-to-change-no-matter-what-the-client-says Jill Duffy, is being updated to include all of the new wickless candles, including the Christmas scents.  Now don’t go finding things to throw at me for mentioning Christmas in August.  Some people plan ahead.  (HI MOM!)  Then there are those of us perpetually behind.  Thankfully, I have a very understanding family that don’t really mind when birthday and anniversary cards arrive.  Of course – it took years and years to train ‘em to that, but it was all worth it in the end.  They get there – that’s what should count.  Although I am hearing some muttering about the road to hell and good intentions….  Never mind.  Back to the wickless candles – I want to tell you about Mums and Leaves and Trick or Treat.  Both are in my favorite orange color. (Another fantastic benefit to making the wickless candles – I can have whatever color I want!)  And both smell fantastic – a combination of crisp green, fresh air and sweetness.

The website should be updated with all the scents soon, but if you really want the new wickless candles – and they aren’t there yet, just pick any candle and mention in the comment box which candle you really want. We have a lot of new things to share, but not wanting to stress the attention spans out there….I will share in bits and pieces – that way you’ll always want to come back.  Thanks for reading, and for being a loyal customer at Glass Slipper Candles and Scents!

Glass Slipper Candles and Scents

From the second Jill our website designer told me to build a blog (and seriously people – you need a Jill in your life building your business) I have had one overwhelming image race through my brain — all those nuns that were forever shushing me.  You would think that they had never had a thought that they would want to share.  Well this is me sticking the ‘ole proverbial tongue out at them….and yes, I think they are still out there torturing another generation with plaid skirts and nightmarish algebraic equations. ‘Kay, enough with the childhood trauma.  Welcome to the blog featuring Glass Slipper Candles and Scents.  A company designed around the concept of wonderful smells and girly-pampering items.  Mom always said that girls needed to know how to take care of things (like buying our own jewelry and indulging ourselves – because the guys will never get it right).  Thanks MOM!

We specialize in hand poured wickless candles.  Our candles use a specially formulated wax, designed to absorb scented oil.  Matter of fact, the wax carries the most oil of any wax on the market. Bar none.  Used in conjunction with a heated warmer, and you have a candle that will ‘throw’ scent for about 300 hours.  Check the labels of some candles that you have in your home now – betcha they only last about 180 hours.  And likely cost a lot more.  Do ours have a pretty flame?  Nope, but then again, ours can be left on the warmer even if you aren’t home.  They also don’t produce soot, or leave waxy residue in your home.  Traditional candles evaporate.  Ever wonder where all that wax and color evaporate to?  You won’t need to locate a match for our candles either.  Which seems like a minor thing – but have you ever noticed that the ability to locate a match never coincides with the desire to have one?  Me too.  Keep my eyes out looking for that gremlin, but have yet to catch him.

Glass Slipper Candles and Scents also carry bath fizzies and mineral bath salts.  Fizzies will make your bath sparkle and pop.  Mineral salts will soothe the savage beast – although I wasn’t implying shared bath tubs or anything.  Who knows – the nuns could be listening.  Kidding aside, we use Dead Sea Salt imported from Israel in our bath concoctions.  A couple of scoops will change the salinity of your bath water, which allows your skin to absorb all the yummy essential oils.  Choose the formula that is best suited for your mood.  Crank-away is for those who suffer from PMS.  Although truth in advertising – it has not been shown to have any relief if the male of the house uses it.  Buh Bye Blues helps with that ‘down’ feeling that we all get from time to time.  Check out the website for all the different formulas, and feel free to indulge!
